The new Venezuelan cell operator, that has announced investments for US$ 250 million, as soon as CONATEL approves the acquisition of TIM on behalf of Oswaldo Cisneros, and the merger between Digicel and Infonet, will construct a national GSM network, installing 600 new radiobases and will assign the prefix 412 – meaning it will operate 20% of the market and obtain one million new clients. According to Oswaldo Cisneros “the new Digitel will experiment and aggressive growth higher than the market’s average” due to that “GSM throughout the American continent is registering a growth rate of 90%”.
In relation to fixed telephony, Digitel GSM will go from an existing 50.000 subscribers to 600.000 in three years. Cisneros assured, “for that to happen we have to be creative”, indicating, according to speculations, the entrance of convergence services of mobile, fixed and data.
