The cable operator Megacable has reached an agreement with Skype to offer IP telephony for US$ 69 per telephone number per year in Mexico. BBVA-Bancomer stated in a report that Mexican users could already contract a local number in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey and pointed out that this is a major blow against both fixed telephone companies, Telmex and Axtel.

The Skype-Megacable alliance consists of promoting the use of the system  in Mexico, not only to make free calls to other Skype customers but also calls outside the network.
