With 24.08% of polling stations counted, the Central Electoral Board (JCE, for its Spanish acronym) reported that the current President Danilo Medina of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD, for its Spanish acronym), has an advantage of 61.81% of the votes over his main opponent, Luis Abinader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM, for its Spanish acronym), which won 35.13% of the votes. Although the results have not closed yet and Medina has not yet publicly announced his new cabinet the regulator told Convergencialatina that Gedeón Santos would continue heading the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel, for its Spanish acronym) for the next two years.
