Agtech, fertile ground for next Argentine unicorns

The big data behind e-commerce in agriculture expands financing for small producers. The strongest impact is on the purchase of inputs, machinery and seeds, although new ventures such as crypto barn are emerging.

Digital agriculture or “agtech” manifests itself in Latin America through five use cases: consulting, financial services, supply, agricultural e-commerce and smart farming. In Argentina, with an ecosystem of about 140 companies, the most advanced vertical is the marketplaces of inputs and production, or both simultaneously: not only were they very useful in the face of the logistical complications of the pandemic in the interior of the country, rather, they function as a spearhead for other models of timid incursion at the local level, such as smart agriculture and the use of digital tools to boost sources of financing for smaller producers.
