Movistar and Sion sign infrastructure sharing agreement, with a US$ 97.5 million investment

Compared to other models applied by Telefónica in Latin America -with KKR in Chile and Colombia, or with CPQD in Brazil-, this alliance shares the spirit, but not the modality, said Luis Delamer, Hispam Wholesale Director at Movistar, to Convergencialatina. “It is one of the first examples of network unbundling in the world. Where we could both make a fiber, but we choose to make one fiber and migrate our clients to it. The investment that we would have allocated can be transferred to AMBA and other cities,” he pointed out.

In a first stage it will focus on Tierra del Fuego, Chubut and Santa Cruz. The aforementioned investment will be made by Sion to migrate 250,000 Telefónica customers who currently have ADSL, to cable modems and GPON, within a period of three years; to extend fiber in locations where it is necessary, to add new clients and accompany the digitization of cable companies already associated with Sion, among the latter are: TV Fuego, Ushuaia Vision, Trelew TV, Rawson TV, among others, adding a total of 80,000 subscribers.
