According to data from the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications of El Salvador, as of the first quarter of 2022, there were 11.3 million mobile telephone lines in the country and a penetration rate of 92%. This figure showed a growth of more than 11% compared to the number of lines existing a year earlier. This is an important leap that shows that the dynamics observed during the worst moments of the coronavirus pandemic, of expansion of mobile services, continue. According to Tigo's CEO, Edgar Grande, in the last two years, the volume of data consumed by users tripled.
