Private Networks: Latin American mining serves as a global exploration ground

Nokia sees it this way, connecting 33 mines -17 in Chile- and several ports with its networks. For this vendor, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for use cases. Ericsson observes three models of private network deployment. The experiences of Telefónica.

Latin America is currently serving as a base for innovation in private networks within the mining vertical, said Raghav Sahgal, president of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, in an interview with Convergencia. The Finnish company has 150 private network clients, mainly concentrated in mining (with 33 connected mines) and ports. In Chile alone, it participates in 17 of the 37 productive mines: of those 37, 28 are copper mines, and 17 have implemented private LTE networks with Nokia's help.
