Telefónica to move forward with insolvency proceedings to find a “strategic” exit in Peru

It will receive US$ 418 million from Telefónica Hispam to sustain operations while the judicial process advances. It rejects the idea of bankruptcy and aims at a solution in its confrontation with the Peruvian State for taxes and penalties totaling some US$ 900 million.

The Board of Directors of Telefónica del Perú has requested the initiation of an ordinary insolvency proceeding before the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property to restructure its financial obligations, focusing on ensuring the uninterrupted provision of telecommunications services to more than 13 million customers in both urban and rural areas of Peru.
