The cost of mitigating interference between 5G and satellite TV could reach US$ 1.871 billion

Representatives of SindiTelebrasil delivered to the advisor of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Emmanoel Campelo, a report prepared with CPqD, in which different alternatives are offered to solve the interferences in the C band when using the frequency of 3.5 GHz to 5G, with costs ranging from US$ 110 million to US$ 1.871 billion.

The solution preferred by operators is in mitigating interference through the use of filters in satellite dishes of satellite television users, which would cost approximately US $ 110 million. This plan does not include the reduction of interference in professional systems or the migration of channels to the extended C band, which would require another US$ 1.1 million.

In turn, the other solution, which would be the distribution of kits for reception in the Ku band, would cost 17 times more, with a total amount calculated at US$ 1.871 billion.
