IFT public consultation on 2020-2024 roadmap

The document sets actions in the short and medium term in the face of the dynamic development of the digital ecosystem. It is made up of 5 strategic objectives, 14 institutional strategies and 54 regulatory action lines(Spanish: líneas de acción regulatoria, LAR). Among the main points of the roadmap, some 21 lines of regulatory action (39% of the total) point to the digital ecosystem. Interested parties may submit observations until September 21.

The first objective is to promote the development, deployment and efficient use of networks and infrastructure; the second, to promote economic competition and free competition in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors in the context of the digital ecosystem; the third, promote the development of the digital ecosystem and the adoption of new technologies and digital use cases; the fourth, to ensure the quality, diversity and plurality of services and to strengthen the rights of users and audiences; and finally, strengthen institutional innovation.

Fixed broadband: Subscribers reach 1.33 billion in the top 30 markets

According to a report by Point Topic, the number is expected to reach 1.54 billion connections by 2030. The report also highlights that fiber-optic (FTTP) will be the dominant and fastest-growing technology, followed by FWA and satellite, while coaxial cable, DSL, and FTTX (copper local loop) are expected to decline.
