ANE promotes social projects for community Internet access

The Francisco José de Caldas District University and the ANE (National Spectrum Agency) have implemented a community wireless network in the outskirts of Bogotá. The layout is Mesh topology, which allows a wide coverage area and requires a minimum initial investment.

The pilot has been developed in the Verbenal Sur neighborhood, located in the No.19 locality of Bogotá, called Ciudad Bolívar. It is characterized as an area where peasant communities displaced by violence in Colombia arrive, and settle, with low resources and lack of opportunities, such as access to information sources or networks (Internet, virtual libraries, etc.). It is made up of around 3,500 families and according to a study conducted by the University, 97.9% of the population did not have access to an Internet network
