SES is the only company with a regional footprint that currently operates in two different orbits - geostationary (GEO) and a half (MEO) - after acquiring O3b. Jurandir Pitsch, Vice President of Sales of SES for Latin America and the Caribbean, confided to Convergencialatina that they are not yet planning to launch satellites in low orbit (LEO), because they still trust that MEO has a greater advantage in terms of global coverage. "It is true that there is a little more latency in MEO, but this promise of LEO is not very realistic, it all depends on where the gateways are located," said the executive.
