Electronic Health Record as a foundational role in the digital health strategy

Federalism is the great challenge to surrpass in terms of digitization of healthcare in Argentina. Different care programs and care systems coexist today in any care center, forcing nurses and doctors to spend a large part of their daily work completing forms. The goal of the Federal Digital Health Plan is for 80% of health centers to have electronic medical records by 2024. Eventually all EHRs will have to connect to the National Digital Health Network.

Federalism is the great challenge to surpass in terms of digitization of health in Argentina: the care services and the information systems behind - in those cases in which they were implemented - were developed "as it could" and in a fragmented and uneven between public (national, provincial, municipal), private and social work centers. In 2018, the first steps were taken for a Digital Health Strategy, with a Ministry of Health that would be the director of the information systems, and under two conditions: the mechanisms to be set did not have to impose anything in a mandatory way on establishments; and the lack of infrastructure and connectivity prevailing in the sector should be taken as a basis.
