The mobile market lacks news in 5G for 3 reasons: operators do not see an immediate need to move towards the next generation; the pandemic made it necessary to allocate efforts in 2020 to address changes in traffic behavior; and from the regulatory point of view, it is still time for evaluations, even more with the shock of DNU 690. Faced with the current scenario, 5G would only be commercially available in Argentina in 2022.

For Hernán La Rosa, Product Development Manager at Movistar “Today there is no need for 5G in Argentina. It is ncesssary to understand for what it is going to be used. If we take into account the possibility of having higher throughput, the one provided by 4G is enough for current mobile use. Regarding the latency reduction to 1 or 2 milliseconds, it will be needed for apps that can be remoted and require it. For 5G, you should sacrifice 4G spectrum and sacrifice throughput", he said.
