Claro and GCS enable the tPago service for mobile transactions

GCS Systems and Dominicana de Teléfonos (Claro) have signed an agreement enabling the implementation of bank and commercial transactions in real time through the tPago platform with Claro equipment, regardless the type of contract they have with the company.

TPago is certified by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic and will be initially offered through the banks: Popular, BHD, Reservas, León and Progreso. The aim is that, gradually, other banks enter the national financial system.

GCS is an enabler of mobile payments, that will integrate through its products tPago different types of companies (financial institutions, telecommunications companies and service companies, among others), with the aim of providing to its customers the ease of all kinds transactions with these institutions from mobile phones.

CNDC objects to Telefónica-Telecom merger, raising legal and competition concerns

The agency states that "Telecom’s acquisition of Telefónica increases the likelihood that the acquiring company will abuse the resulting dominant position" in the retail markets for fixed and mobile telephony, broadband internet, and pay TV. It also raises concerns about a dominant position in the corporate and wholesale markets. Telecom has 15 days to respond.
