Number portability became in effect at midnight today in Colombia, in compliance with Act 1245 of 2008. Users could request it to their operators and the transaction should become effective in five business days, with no cost.
Iván Sánchez Medina, CRC commissioner, stated that according to the studies carried out by the entity, in the first year, only between 0.8% and 2% of the users will change operator.
It is estimated that operators have invested almost US$30 million to get ready for portability, which will be administered by the El Corte Inglés.
