Carlos Reyes, vice president of the National Telecommunications Company (in Spanish: Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, ENTEL) confirmed to Convergencialatina that the LTE service is available in Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz. The plan "4G-LTE 700" costs US$ 101 per month and allows a maximum transfer of 40 Mbps download, as the company said in a press release for the launch (although, as a promotion, until 31 January 2013 this limit does not apply). To access the service one must purchase the LTE modem Bandluxe C-506, which costs US$ 195.
Reyes pointed out the priorities for LTE: "First, we will continue with HSPA+; then meet high demand areas in capital cities, business centers. Anyway, we do not aspire to match the deployment of HSPA+, which will add 150,000 connections by year’s end: LTE for us is a way to give higher expected use to customers already using HSPA +. Even though we've started with modems, we will orient it to smartphones and tablets."
Last month, Deputy Minister of Telecommunications of Bolivia, Gustavo Pozo, had advanced to Convergencialatina that the state operator could advance towards 700 MHz LTE before year end.
