The Competition Commission of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), which regulates the so-called CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) said it will discuss the issue with member countries of the organization. If any of them disagrees, the matter will be referred to the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
This week the Secretary General of the Union of Barbados, Toni Moore, warned that the merger of the companies is about to cause a lot of layoffs in the various countries involved. However, he indicated that the merged company is making agreements with the unions to reduce the impact of these layoffs.
