There are already 24 agreements between satellite and mobile operators to provide sat-to-phone service

This was reported by the GSA in a recent report. Of these agreements, 2 are operational in island nations located in the Pacific: Palau and the Cook Islands. In 4 other countries, the technology is being tested, and there are 18 projects in the planning stage.

The Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) reported that, globally, there are already 24 agreements between satellite and mobile operators to offer the satellite-to-cellphone (or sat-to-phone) service, which allows standard commercial smartphones to receive satellite connectivity. These partnerships span across 16 countries and territories.
