Second discussion of report for Telecommunications Act amendment approved

The Standing Committee of the People's Power and Media approved in second debate the Report on the Bill for Partial Amendment of the Organic Telecommunications Act, which now shall go to the House for consideration thereof.

Deputy Jose Gregorio Correa denied that the intention is that government stops exercising its authority over the administration of the radio spectrum but "we need that the integration of CONATEL board be more participatory and comprises civil society, the National Assembly and the Executive".

In another vein, Correa added that "CONATEL has a delay with each of those who have applied for renewal of its license, its authorization or its extension for operation, but there has been an administrative silence (...)".
