ITU-T SG3 Regional Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (SG3RG-LAC) to meet in March

From 6 to 10 of March 2017 the ITU-T SG3 (Tariff and accounting principles and international telecommunication/ICT economic and policy issues) Regional Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (SG3RG-LAC) will meet in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, together with the associated Regional Standardization Forum (RSF) for Bridging the Standardization Gap (BSG) on 6 March 2017.

By way of background, ITU-T Study Group 3 works on a number of economic, policy, and tariff issues relevant to international telecommunications, such as mobile roaming, digital identity, mobile financial services, cost models, competition policy (SMP), international internet connectivity, and OTTs.  The deadline for contributions is 21 February 2017. There are already 24 agreements between satellite and mobile operators to provide sat-to-phone service

This was reported by the GSA in a recent report. Of these agreements, 2 are operational in island nations located in the Pacific: Palau and the Cook Islands. In 4 other countries, the technology is being tested, and there are 18 projects in the planning stage.
