2017 FTTH Latam Conference

Telecom has 12,000 clients passed with FTTH in Argentina

In terms of customers contracting services on that deployment, the figure is 3,000, according to what Claudio Javier Cipriani, leader of FTTH Engineering, told Convergencialatina after his dissertation at the FTTH Council conference. The company's fiber project for the home had started in closed neighborhoods and other "greenfield" spaces, and on the other hand, with the immediate replacement of copper in areas of high user complaints.

Cipriani highlighted in particular the implementation of "microtechnology", micro fiber technology that allows saving space and avoiding breakages or problems for reinstallation in areas of high traffic and movement of people. Telecom already has a stretch of 300 kilometers with these characteristics, distributed in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Tucumán and Córdoba. "The big advantage in large cities with saturated pipelines is that it can be deployed directly above the cable, without higher civil engineering costs nor the requirement of additional permits," he said.

In 2016, Telecom had also planned to install 160 closet areas, of 400 clients that were directly migrated to FTTH, at national level, although in these cases the service sales platform has not yet been launched.
