7th Green Standards Week

7th GSW - ANE's priorities for Smart Cities: ensuring unlicensed spectrum and facilitating infrastructure deployment

During the 7th Green Standards Week (GSW), Martha Liliana Suárez, head of Colombia's National Spectrum Agency (ANE), pointed out that for Smart Cities, the work of the agency is based on obtaining greater availability of resources. In that sense, Suárez highlighted the measures by which the ANE doubled from 20 to 40 GHz the availability of unlicensed spectrum, which is required for IoT applications. In addition, she explained the 10-year plan for the delivery of bands, which allows reducing the costs in the migration of services. On the other hand, the ANE also focuses on the tasks to facilitate the deployment of infrastructure, such as the control of RNI and information activities to the population.

In relation to rural areas, ANE's approach to expanding connectivity is that technology is affordable. In that sense, Suárez reported that the consultation on the dynamic use of blank spaces was closed and confirmed to Convergencialatina that the regulations are being adjusted so that this technology is available without any monetary compensation. In addition, satellite and wireless mile solutions are being evaluated in unlicensed bands.
