WTDC 2017

Training in new skills for future jobs also requires creating new market categories

This was one of the main conclusions of the panel dedicated to the topic. Christoph Ernst, a specialist in Employment and Productive Development of the International Labor Organization (ILO), explained that beyond the work in training and entrepreneurship, it is important to work on the development of a market to accommodate these new skills, and are already observing gaps in this regard.

The Global Initiative on Decent Work for Youth has a campaign -in which the ITU and the ILO collaborate together- dedicated to Digital Abilities. Data from this initiative show that 10 million ICT jobs will be vacant by 2030, and the program aims to create 5 million. Yushi Torigee of the ITU explained that the goal is to "connect men and women with special training programs in advanced digital skills, to better prepare them for the digital economy. They are not being taught today."
