ENTEL started to encourage change of TDMA technology devices

The State-owned company ENTEL started to send text messages to customers that are still operating over the TDMA network in order to encourage them to change their handsets for one that operate over the GSM network while they keep their number.

This promotion is aimed at encouraging users to use new services rendered by GSM network, such as downloading tones, music, exploring the Net, and having other value services.

Those purchasing a new phone to change to the GSM network will receive a prepaid card as gift for US$8.

CNDC objects to Telefónica-Telecom merger, raising legal and competition concerns

The agency states that "Telecom’s acquisition of Telefónica increases the likelihood that the acquiring company will abuse the resulting dominant position" in the retail markets for fixed and mobile telephony, broadband internet, and pay TV.
