Catel to launch its MVNO in third quarter and dialogue with Colsecor moves forward

Ariel Fernández Alvarado, president of the Cámara de Cooperativas de Telecomunicaciones (Catel) (Chamber of Telecommunications Cooperatives) explained that the MVNO development process in partnership with Telefónica is in advanced stage: "we have the platform, we are asking for mobile numbering, developing SIM cards, roaming agreements, the negotiations for the devices with Huawei and Samsung. On the other hand, it is still necessary to define the brand and complete the processes to use Telefónica's last mile. We wish next year we will be counting how many customers we have".

More optimistic, Antonio De Bonis, commercial manager of Wholesale Business of Telefónica, estimated that "we can even be ready before, in five or six months we have the service available". De Bonis highlighted Telefónica's experience in Latin America where, he says, it provides wholesale services to more than 85% of MVNOs. Regarding Catel, De Bonis said that "the grace of cooperatives is that they already have a customer base, the environment in which they move". In addition, he assured that they will launch Catel's OMV before looking for another partner.

Alvarado also assured that they are talking with actors from different provinces so that the OMV has national arrival. "The specific case is Colsecor, a Catel-Colsecor project can group more than 200 cooperatives", he said.
