Latsat 2018 - Hughes plans its next residential broadband launches

The satellite operator that was traditionally a technology provider for Telefónica or Media Networks, already analyzes its upcoming satellite residential broadband launches provided directly by them, as they do in Brazil and Colombia. "In June-July our new satellite is launched and there we will analyze among Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and other countries. We are evaluating different models, whether we do it directly or through a partner, as we do in Mexico with Star Group", told to Convergencialatina Daniel Losada, Sales International Vice President of Hughes. The direct residential service they provide has a maximum speed of 25 Mbps, although the modem allows up to 300 Mbps.

The executive mentioned the barriers that sometimes are found when analyzing the next launches of the satellite residential broadband service: "The regulatory issue is sometimes a barrier, because there are countries that ask for many licenses, another one is the relationship with customers as it is a different mentality to sell to another operator than to a residential customer, where sometimes it is necessary to explain the need, because they are users who do not have Internet.
