Modernization Secretary spoke of new spectrum models to deploy 5G

Andrés Ibarra, Deputy Chief of Staff and Secretary of Modernization of the State, said in dialogue with Convergencialatina that government is studying the whole spectrum segmentation that exists to decide on the award, but that the effective work on 5G will be carried out only after the decision is made on the destination of Arsat frequencies - available to Enacom through Presidential Decree DNU 58/19, which remains in force despite the fact that the Bicameral Committe rejected it - and those that Telecom must return by the end of the year. In addition, he said that they expect to convince the mega-mergered company to continue with the return by mid-2019. On these frequencies for 3G and 4G, Ibarra estimated that in May they will be able to start the process to make them available to the market.

In the case of 5G, he said that "we will also analyze other frequencies and priority bands for 5G, and we estimate that only in the second quarter of next year, works will be effectively done in 5G, basically in high bands, and with the experiences of the rest of the world as antecedent".
