Davos Forum: the United States and France agree on the GAFA rate

Bruno Le Maire, French Finance Minister, said his country will postpone the application of taxes to digital businesses in exchange for the United States promise not to set retaliatory sanctions. The agreement was reached with the US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin. France would postpone the collection of the tax until December, although it will not eliminate it completely until an international agreement is reached. "Digital companies will pay their fair tax in 2020," Le Maire announced.

Meanwhile, the president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, informed the World Economic Forum that it was decided to slow down the GAFA Rate following the failure of the decision in France. The economic vice president, Nadia Calviño, clarified that "the international consensus" will prevail in Spain, in relation to waiting for an agreement in the OECD.
