Laying of the Austral Fiber Optic to begin

The Silica Network company, which was awarded two projects in the tender promoted by Subtel, is in the first stage of installation of 890 kilometers of fiber in the Aysén and Los Lagos regions, allowing connectivity to isolated towns. The project will benefit 435,000 people and 19,000 companies in the country's southern regions. Silica Networks manager, Enrique Villagra, explained that between this year and the next there will be 630 km. Between Caleta Tortel and Cohaique, and then a second section of 260 kms will be deployed between Puerto Montt and Hualaihué.

The mayors of the Aysén region, particularly the most isolated communes, highlight the need for better Internet services, but before the next start of work, in July, they ask that workers comply with a previous quarantine of 14 days, to protect their communities from Covid-19 infections.
