Facebook looking for ISPs for its Express WiFi project

The public WiFi initiative promoted by the OTT consists of ISPs investing in the deployment of public wireless access points and using Facebook Connectivity's Express WiFi software, which is in charge of monitoring network performance. These agreements do not generate income for the social network and are part of its corporate social responsibility projects, explained Tarcisio Ribeiro, director of International Business Development and Alliances with Operators for Latin America at Facebook, to Convergencialatina.

In Argentina Express WiFi already has an access point in Greater Buenos Aires with Berisso Conectado and in seven municipalities in Entre Ríos with Internet Support: Concordia, Paso de la Laguna, Primero de Mayo, Villa Clara, Villa Dominguez, Villa Elisa and Villaguay. In the case of Total Net, they are in the pilot process in CABA.

As part of the initiative, the ISP is required to license to commercialize broadband and it is recommended that it use equipment from Cambium, Ruckus, Edge Core, Cisco, so that the access points are compatible with Facebook software.
