Creation of database for facial recognition approved in committee

Representatives approved in committee the creation of this database and the transfer of personal data from the Dirección Nacional de Identificación Civil (DNIC) (National Directorate of Civil Identification) to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior. Thus, the ruling party gives a legal framework to the new public security and control system that was designed by the previous government. They are found in the Budget Law, in articles 178 and 179.

From Frente Amplio they warn that this change "is not legal without the authorization of each owner of the image". Silvia Nane, from that said party, wondered “what security measures are we going to apply later to that database, what are those specific uses of public security. We do not consider it to be a debate for a budget bill because it is not a data that is exhausted in five years, but quite the opposite".
