US$6.1 million allocated to renovation of Arsat Data Center

The investment is part of the plan for the State satellite company under the Plan Conectar. The Chief of Cabinet of Ministers authorized the transfer of resources that will be used to renew, update and expand the equipment of the Arsat Data Center and to prioritize the creation of the National Public Cloud, it was reported.

The transfer was published in the Official Gazette through Resolution 720/2020. The Secretary of Public Innovation, Micaela Sánchez Malcolm, stressed that the investment comes to “ensure the technological sovereignty of Argentina” and added that “renewing the equipment and creating the National Public Cloud is one of the first steps to achieve it, at the same time that we reinforce data security”.

The topic was advanced by Convergencia on October 22. That day it was reported that the Oficina Nacional de Tecnologías de la Información (Onti) (National Office of Information Technology) was holding conversations with private cloud service operators, who trained state officials on related issues. The ICT Undersecretary, Martín Olmos, reported that the Arsat Data Center has “81 active clients, of which 20% belong to the private sector. Among the main public clients are ANSES, the Ministry of Public Innovation, the Central Bank and INDEC, among others”.
