Telcel to launch 5G services in 18 cities from March

Telcel's 5G network will be available from March in 18 cities in Mexico, although it will reach 120 cities by the end of the year, according to a presentation to the press made by the top executives of América Móvil, Telcel's parent company.

The 18 cities will be: Mexico City, Hermosillo, Mérida, Tijuana, Querétaro, Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Durango, Puebla, León, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Culiacán, Mazatlán, Torreón, Saltillo, San Luis Potosí and Toluca.

Telcel will provide the service on the spectrum that it already has as of the decision of the regulator, the IFT, to modify its concession titles. Daniel Hajj, CEO of América Móvil, said that they will evaluate whether to acquire more spectrum in the auction that the IFT is preparing for the second half of the year.

In the presentation, the company emphasized the business aimed at end customers and spoke little about use cases in the industry and other segments, such as smart cities and digitized public services.
