Pablo Molina, Sales Coordinator for Broadband Southern Cone in Furukawa, proposed to broadband providers present at Internet Day 2022 to look towards 2030 that will require a radical change in their business. “Until now, they lived off subscribers. With 5G and IoT, network resources are going to be required that today Argentina is not prepared to provide,” he detailed in a talk with Convergencia after his presentation.
According to the executive, the ISP will need a good network, in three possible scenarios: to compete, to be acquired by another actor, or to ally. “Physical infrastructure becomes worth more than the subscribers. In Brazil it already happened. The ISP needs a quality network for this, not a half network,” he said.
As a first step, Molina called on providers to take into account that their network has value. From there one has to decide on investments.
