Request from operators for VAS providers to pay fee

The main telecommunications operators in the country, Claro, TIM, Vivo and Oi, made their opinions known to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), on how a possible collection could be implemented regarding the application of a fee to service providers. Value Added Services (VAS), such as streaming platforms and Big Techs.

Although all operators openly defend that digital platforms have to pay part of the costs of broadband networks, there are some differences on their implementation.

In the case of TIM, for example, it states that the parties enter into negotiations with determined deadlines. In the case of refusing to sign an agreement, the regulatory body should intervene. Claro, in turn, it defends that Anatel participate from the beginning in the process and open an arbitration in the case of refusal to establish an agreement.
