Movistar Chile announces new pilots with Stand Alone technology

The company announced at the Barcelona trade fair two new 5G Experience Laboratories, which will be located at the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción and Universidad de La Serena. At a press conference held yesterday, Fernando Saiz, director of Public Affairs for the subsidiary, also commented that the operator reached 1.5 million 5G customers.

70% of Movistar Chile's mobile customers subscribe to unlimited plans with 5G included at no extra cost. As Saiz detailed, users consume 40% more gigabytes than with 4G.

During 2024, Movistar Chile will also carry out over 800 projects to modernize 4G and 5G, and 260 5G coverage expansions throughout Chile. This will include adding new coverage areas such as Easter Island, Cape Horn, Primavera, and Timaukel.

Additionally, the executive revealed, "In 2024, all of our home broadband customers will be on fiber optic". And he announced an alliance that will allow duo pack customers (those who subscribe to Internet and TV) to have free access to MAX (formerly HBO Max).
