Gradual blackout of analog television begins in Chile

As announced, this March 13, the analog signals of Televisión Nacional de Chile ended their transmissions permanently in the regions of Arica, Aysén, Magallanes and Tarapacá.

The 2014 law that established digital terrestrial television in the country set a deadline of 2020 to achieve a correct transition from the analog format. However, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications had to extend this period in 2020, alluding to the fact that the conditions to carry out the blackout were not yet met, which was postponed to this year.

The Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya, specified that the channels with national coverage develop "a gradual shutdown process, starting from the extreme regions, and always monitoring the result of this measure", whose deadline is April 15.
