Pablo Vic, CEO and co-founder of TLON Space and Armengol Torres, CTO & co-founder of SLIMOp Space, closed the second day of the event organized by Convergencialatina at Momento Latam.Space II. Both projects create new market categories in the segment.
The Argentine start-up TLON is working on the development of a space launcher, the Aventura I. "It uses advanced technology, minimalist in its overall conception, with low consumption of human and financial resources", Vic explained. Their segment includes satellites weighing less than 10 kilos: microsats, nanosats and pocketsats.
TLON created its first spaceport in the province of Buenos Aires and, between October and November of this year, they will conduct the final design flight with all operational capabilities. At that time, they will transport payloads from a Californian client and other Europeans who will be testing their innovative systems in orbit.
For his part, Torres explained how the Spanish SLIMOp is designing a new concept of telescopes, offering lower cost, lower weight and faster delivery of between 10 and 12 weeks. "We have found a way to create a primary mirror, with other types of materials, that will weigh about 10 times less", explained the CTO.
The start-up is focused on Earth observation, optical communications, and multifunction satellites. "We are creating this new category: low-cost telescopes", he concluded.
