Starlink outpaced Claro and Altice in relative customer growth

A new player is gaining ground nationally, showing a 194.37% growth in one year. This is Starlink, the satellite Internet service developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX. Despite being a premium service in both price and quality, numerous Dominicans have subscribed, demonstrating a growing demand for advanced connectivity solutions.

Due to the "feasibility" of the service, one year after its launch in March 2023, the number of customers nationwide reached 5,021. Twelve months later, the figure had tripled to 16,079 users in the Dominican Republic, according to data provided by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) to elDinero.

Specifically, Claro registered a growth of 2.02%, increasing from 6,108,561 to 6,232,153 between January and December 2023. This shows a net variation of 123,592 users, the highest among the four brands. Altice increased its figures by 3.64%, rising from 3,336,310 to 3,457,970 in one year, with a net variation of 121,660.

In the same period, Starlink experienced an increase in its figures, which rose from 5,021 to 14,776. With a net variation of 9,755 and a percentage growth of 194.37%, in the first quarter, it increased to 16,079 users with 1,303 new customers.
