Starting in October, streaming services will include 18% VAT tax

Following the announcement of the 'Netflix tax', which will impose an 18% VAT on non-resident digital platforms, Sunat is preparing a registry starting this Monday for these companies to register with a RUC (Taxpayer Identification Number) in Peru.

Based on the experience of other countries in the region, it is estimated that around 473 non-resident platforms will initially register. These platforms will begin to charge and/or withhold VAT starting in October 2023 and will be required to declare and pay it monthly starting in November.

Among the digital platforms to be taxed are Netflix, Spotify, HBO, Disney+, Airbnb, Google, Sony, Amazon, Uber, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Prezi, Booking, Adobe Suite, Apple services, Zoom, PlayStation Network, Xbox, Tinder, OnlyFans, and even adult entertainment subscription sites.
