AST SpaceMobile launches first cellular broadband satellites

AST SpaceMobile successfully launched the company's first five BlueBird satellites, which are part of its constellation designed to provide mobile broadband connectivity directly to standard smartphones on Earth.

The launch took place on Thursday morning from Cape Canaveral. The five satellites were sent into space aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. The goal of the operation is to cover up to 100% of the U.S. region, in addition to offering the service in selected global markets.

In addition to voice, data, and video services, the satellites can also be used for non-communication-related government applications. According to AST SpaceMobile, this technology can provide a solution for users in areas with limited broadband tower coverage, such as rural regions or national parks.
