América Móvil to challenge IFT's restrictive measures against Telcel and Telmex

América Móvil will challenge a series of new measures imposed by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT).

In a statement, the owner of Telmex and Telcel in Mexico, said that the IFT resolution “does not consider the profound changes that have occurred” more than a decade after they were imposed.

Among the new measures imposed on Telcel is the obligation to deliver unlocked devices, the prohibition of establishing forced or minimum terms (except for corporate clients), as well as the prohibition of conditioning or associating the granting of discounts or benefits between the contract for the sale of a device and the contract for telecommunications services.

For Telmex, the IFT determined that the rates related to the access service and shared use of towers and/or sites will be freely determined and included in the Reference Offer approved by the regulator.
