América Móvil criticizes Bait's lack of clarity on subscriber number

América Móvil has criticized Bait, Walmart’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), questioning the clarity of its subscriber figures. The operator pointed out a significant discrepancy between the data reported by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) and those provided by the MVNO.

Daniel Hajj Aboumrad, CEO of América Móvil, said during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings call with analysts: “About BAIT, I can’t say much because I don’t understand their figures. They said, if anything, that they have fewer subscribers, and then they said their ARPU is higher. I don’t know… I really don’t understand their numbers. So it’s very difficult to make quarter-to-quarter comparisons with BAIT.”
