U.S. backs Liberty’s selection to build a submarine cable

The US government congratulated El Salvador on the selection of Liberty Networks to build a submarine fiber-optic cable. The initiative, promoted under the leadership of Donald Trump and Nayib Bukele, is expected to deliver faster internet and create new economic opportunities for Salvadorans.

The US Embassy in El Salvador highlighted the project’s key role in the country’s digital transformation. Liberty Networks, selected by SIGET, will design, build, and operate the 1,800-kilometer cable, connecting El Salvador to major international hubs. The initial investment for studies and design was financed with US$85.4 million from a CAF loan approved by the Legislative Assembly in February 2025.
