Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration will invest around US$30 million to develop a constellation of four satellites set to enter orbit in 2028, Expansión reported.
The goal of this initiative is to strengthen Earth observation capabilities and generate proprietary imagery and data to reduce dependence on foreign sources.
The constellation, named Ixtli — which means “eyes to see” in Nahuatl — will allow monitoring of climate-related phenomena such as wildfires, forest health, landslides, crops, species tracking, human development, as well as matters related to national security.
