MTC announces connectivity project in Arequipa with a US$93 million investment

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones, MTC) announced the start of “a new stage of connectivity” in the Arequipa region, which will benefit more than 141,000 people in 252 population centers with access to high-speed internet.

In addition, 442 public institutions will be connected (268 educational institutions, 121 health facilities and 53 police stations), and 224 public spaces with free Wi-Fi and 92 Digital Access Centers will be deployed.

The project includes the rollout of more than 2,872 kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure, with an investment exceeding US$93 million, enabling connectivity in historically underserved areas.

The MTC highlighted that this initiative complements other sector actions, such as the expansion of 4G mobile internet in rural areas.
