The telecommunications landscape in El Salvador shows a notable increase in mobile connectivity, reaching a total of 12,031,743 active mobile lines by the end of 2025. This figure, from the latest report by the General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones, Siget), is almost double the country’s population, estimated at 6.02 million inhabitants according to the 2024 Population Census.
Mobile line growth has been significant, with an increase of 843,728 compared to the 11.8 million lines recorded at the end of 2024, representing a 7.5% expansion. Prepaid services continue to dominate the market, accounting for 85% of total lines, with more than 10.22 million users. This segment grew by 601,218 lines (6.2%) year over year. Postpaid lines surpassed 1.80 million, making up the remaining 15% and posting a significant 15.4% increase, adding 242,510 new accounts compared to 1.56 million in 2024.
Fixed lines reached 2.91 million at the end of 2025, a modest 0.3% increase (9,902 lines) compared to 2024. Siget notes that this service is mainly maintained as part of internet or cable bundles and remains relevant in corporate environments.
El Salvador’s network infrastructure is robust, with 97% of the national territory covered by mobile network service. In addition, 99% of the population has access to at least a 3G network. Of the more than 6.7 million active mobile lines with subscriptions, approximately 4.5 million have access to broadband speeds, while 2.1 million are limited to low and medium data speeds.
