The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones, CRT) approved reductions in fees for the temporary use of spectrum in the 600 MHz, 1.9 GHz, 2.5 GHz, and 3.3 to 3.6 GHz bands, in order to reduce costs for mobile operators providing connectivity during large-scale events at the FIFA World Cup 2026 venues.
This spectrum authorization is being enabled for the first time in Mexico, thanks to Article 166 of the new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, which allows temporary spectrum use in exceptional cases.
The CRT plenary has already granted three authorizations to mobile operators, which are currently deploying infrastructure to take advantage of the spectrum and ensure connectivity amid expected high data traffic demand.
