Ecuador now has the Organic Law for Strengthening Cybersecurity, which aims to establish a national legal framework to protect critical digital infrastructure, manage risks, and ensure the resilience and continuity of essential services in the country in the face of cyber threats. The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (Ministerio de Telecomunicaciones y de la Sociedad de la Información, MINTEL), as the governing body of the telecommunications and information society sector in Ecuador, actively participated in its development.
Among the main provisions established by the law is the strengthening of concepts and definitions in the field of digital security, such as critical digital infrastructure, cyberspace, cyberattack, and digital or information assets, as well as cybersecurity incidents and risks.
